Bible Study Approach
We generally study through whole books of the Bible and do so without relying on study guides. Books are chosen alternating between Old and New Testaments and giving priority to the more foundational books. (For example: Over the years we have studied: Genesis, Luke, Daniel, 1 Timothy, 1 & 2nd Samuel, Acts, and most recently - Exodus & Numbers.)
The format is a leader-guided discussion, not lecture. Many questions are asked, by both the teacher and the class, and all are encouraged to share their insights and experiences. Children have opportunities to learn from their parents sharing. Parents have the opportunity to hear the same things their children are being taught, while also observing their children's participation, questions and sharing.
The actual teaching time is about 30 minutes with the remaining time devoted to the sharing of praises and prayer requests and an opening song.
Focus / Goals in Bible Study
The Bible study focus is on building a solid foundation of Bible knowledge along with the ability to study the Bible independently, making sound interpretations and applications. Whole Bible books are studied, while also referring to related scriptures elsewhere, to learn not only the topics touched on but the message of the books as a whole.
